Formal Dinner took the lead soon after the start and held it throughout for a four-length victory over Beaudaspic in yesterday's $92,100 Sanford Stakes for 2-year-olds at Saratoga in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Ridden by Jose Santos, Formal Dinner ran six furlongs in 1:10 1/5. He returned $6.60 as part of a Wayne Lukas entry with Radio Daze and became Lukas's third Sanford winner in six years.

Link finished third, 2 1/2 lengths back, followed by Tustunugee, Tammany, Three Coins Up, Raise Fury, Radio Daze, Ducere and Devon Fair.

Formal Dinner, a son of Well Decorated, won his second race in four starts to collect $55,260.

Lukas's other Sanford winners were Bite The Bullet (1989) and Sovereign Don ('85).

Del Mar: In Del Mar, Calif., Lite Light ($36.20), ridden by Russell Baze, took the lead with three furlongs to go and won the $80,850 Sorrento Stakes by 4 1/2 lengths .

It was Baze's third win of the day. He also won atop long shots Bold Costa ($51.20) in the fifth and Frosty Paws ($20.40) in the sixth.

Beyond Perfection finished second, 2 3/4 lengths in front of Dragonetta in the stakes race for 2-year-old fillies. Beyond Perfection, who set the early pace, was the 6-5 favorite of the crowd of 14,105.

Lite Light ran seven furlongs in 1:22, earning $47,100.
