Mike Oquist wrapped up the Carolina League's Northern Division title for the Frederick Keys last night, throwing an 8-0 shutout in the first game of a doubleheader against the Prince William Cannons at Prince William County Stadium.

The Cannons won the second game, 4-1.

Going into last night, Frederick had a five-game lead on Prince William. By winning the opener, the Keys not only eliminated the Cannons but ended the division race and secured a playoff berth.

Oquist (9-8) went the distance in the seven-inning game, giving up four hits and striking out five. He leads the league with 170 strikeouts.

"Mike's been a good pitcher all year long and he's a lot better than his record shows," said Keys Manager Wally Moon.

As effective as Oquist was pitching, Tyrone Kingwood was almost as good hitting. He went three for four and sparked a six-run sixth inning with a home run and a double.

Kingwood's leadoff homer made it 3-0. He got another time at bat in the inning thanks to five consecutive singles, an RBI grounder and another single. Kingwood then cracked an RBI double that finished the scoring.
