Miami Heat -- First-round draft pick Alec Kessler of Georgia will be sidelined for about a month with stress fracture in left leg.

Dallas Mavericks -- Reserve G Steve Alford signed one-year contract.


Georgetown -- David Urick, head lacrosse coach and former football and lacrosse coach at Hobart College, will be inducted into the Hobart Athletic Hall of Fame today. Urick coached 40 all-Americans at Hobart and led the school to 10 consecutive NCAA Division III lacrosse titles during his 19-year tenure.


Australian Indoor Championships -- Top-seeded Stefan Edberg and third-seeded Ivan Lendl won to set up a semifinal clash in tournament in Sydney. Edberg defeated ninth-seeded David Wheaton, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), and Lendl beat Peter Lundgren, 6-2, 7-6 (6-3).


Medal Count -- China won 15 more golds in Beijing, boosting total to 175, or 59 percent of total awarded. South Korea, with seven golds, brought second-place total to 52.
