LUCKY BOUNCE: With less than two minutes remaining Friday in Wilson's 26-22 win over Cardozo, Wilson trailed, 22-20, and faced first and 10 from the Clerks' 33. Wide receivers Van Johnson and Ed Maxwell lined up wide right and streaked toward the end zone. Quarterback Quincy Randolph rolled right and lofted a floater toward Johnson. He was covered by Cardozo's Eddie Williams, who jumped and tipped the ball. Johnson, falling backward, also managed to hit the ball, which was grabbed by Maxwell. He ran to the Cardozo 5 before being shoved out of bounds.

On the next play, Antoine Boyd scored.

"It's the same play we do in practice," Maxwell said. "Johnson runs the flag pattern and I run my post route pattern. I always turn back and watch to see if he catches it. If not and the ball is tipped, I catch it."

FALCONS FIND A WAY: It seems almost weekly that No. 8 Fauquier comes up with a defensive play to pull out a victory.

Tied at 12 late in the third period of Friday's Virginia AAA Commonwealth District game with Woodbridge, defensive end Stephen Abrams broke through the line and blocked a punt by Woodbridge's Terrence Harrelson at Fauquier's 38. Fauquier's Jeff Stephens picked it up and raced to the Woodbridge 18.

"I slipped through two men at the line and {Harrelson} had trouble with the low snap," Abrams said.

Two plays later, Michael Porter stiff-armed several defenders and raced 17 yards for the winning touchdown.
