Virginia -- Cavaliers' top-ranked women's soccer team (16-0) will play at No. 3 North Carolina (13-1-1) today at 5 p.m. Tar Heels, who have won last four NCAA titles and recently had 103-game unbeaten streak snapped, are 101-0-2 in Chapel Hill since 1979.

Water Polo -- No. 13 Navy failed to hold 6-1 lead and was upset by Princeton, 12-11, in Mid-Atlantic tournament at Villanova.

Maryland -- Tommy Mensing finished second in East Coast Athletic Conference invitational golf tournament with two-day total of 145. Terrapins finished third overall in the event in Shawnee, Pa., with 598 points, behind Bryant (R.I.) College and Hartford.

Tennessee -- Dropped investigation into alleged sexual assault of a woman student by three football players. Case was dropped at the woman's request, university officials said. The players involved -- Tracy Rodgers, Dewayne Dotson and Keith Jeter -- were suspended from team Oct. 12 by Coach Johnny Majors for violating team rule regarding the hours women may visit athletic dormitory.

Golden State Warriors -- Cut 7-5 C Chuck Nevitt, F Kenny Green, G Mitchell Henry and G Stan Kimbrough.

BASEBALL

Milwaukee Brewers -- Juan Nieves, only pitcher in history of team to throw a no-hitter, was released. Also released were Ps Mike Birkbeck and Tom Filer.

Weightlifting -- College Park Open will be held at University of Maryland's Cole Field House on Nov. 3. The first session will begin at 11 a.m., the second at 2:30 p.m.
