DOME SWEET HOME: Former Syracuse and Spingarn High School star Sherman Douglas returned to the Carrier Dome last night for the Miami Heat's 112-101 loss to the New Jersey Nets.

Douglas, who had 26 points and eight assists, was scheduled to share the spotlight with former Syracuse teammates Rony Seikaly and Derrick Coleman.

However, Seikaly, Miami's center, sprained his ankle at a practice last week and didn't make the trip. Coleman, the NBA's No. 1 draft pick, has not agreed to a contract with the Nets.

CAN'T KEEP HIM DOWN: One problem after another smacked Dee Brown down since the Boston Celtics drafted him.

He couldn't participate fully in summer training camp because he hadn't signed. He was grabbed at gunpoint by Wellesley, Mass., police who mistook him for a bank robber. He missed the first three exhibition games with an infected big toe.

But in his NBA debut Monday, Brown had 19 points and 10 assists as the the Celtics lost, 127-122, to Atlanta. He made nine of 14 shots and had three steals and four rebounds.

"He will play a lot of minutes this year," Coach Chris Ford said.

MOVES: The Hornets waived Gs Jim Les and Andre Turner.
