SuperSonics G Dale Ellis reported to serve a one-day jail sentence for drunken and reckless driving convictions stemming from a Jan. 12 incident in which he crashed his car into a Seattle freeway on-ramp divider. Also, he may miss two games because of an inflamed right foot.

HALL CALL: Indiana University Coach Bob Knight and Larry O'Brien, the former NBA commissioner who died last month, are among 12 candidates nominated for election to the Hall of Fame.

Renominated as players: Nate Archibald, Dave Cowens, Bob Lanier, John Kerr, Calvin Murphy and Nera White, a women's Amateur Athletic Union star.

Other nominees: Kansas State Coach Jack Hartman; former NBA coach Jack Ramsay; the late Larry Fleisher, who founded the NBA Players Association and is the only new name on the list; and the late Carol Eckman, who organized the first national college tournament for women in 1969.

OUCH: The Hawks are entering the season an unhealthy bunch. F Alexander Volkov must have surgery to repair broken bones in both wrists. He could be out three to five months.
