STATESBORO, GA., NOV. 3 -- Raymond Gross passed for two first-quarter touchdowns and ran for another in the second period as Georgia Southern took a 21-0 lead on its way to a 31-13 victory over James Madison this afternoon.

Gross, who completed 11 of 19 passes for 197 yards, hooked up with Terrance Sorrell for a 54-yard score on the Eagles' first play from scrimmage. He threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Sorrell later.

In the second quarter Gross ran three yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0.

Dukes quarterback Eriq Williams, who completed 11 of 20 passes for 144 yards, threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Dwayne Hayes and Mike Granuzzo kicked a 19-yard field goal to make the halftime score 21-10.

Granuzzo's 42-yard field goal made it 21-13 in the third period, but Joe Dowis kicked a 30-yard field goal and Joe Ross capped a 60-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to wrap up the scoring.

In addition to his passing, Williams carried 29 times for 109 yards. Ross had a team-high 81 yards on 15 rushes.

Georgia Southern improved to 6-3. James Madison fell to 5-4.
