T P's Express turned in an impressive performance in winning a Maryland Sire Stakes event for 2-year-old colts last night at Rosecroft Raceway. The race was one of four Sire Stakes for 2-year-olds. Total purse of the races was $242,660.
In the colt pace, T P's Express made a bold three-wide move in the backstretch for trainer-driver Joe Holloway to circle to field and score a seven-length victory in 1:56 3/5.
"The only way I thought I'd lose the race was if my horse made a mistake so I didn't rush him," said Holloway.
Speciality, driven by Bryan Truitt, won the Sires Stakes for 2-year-old pacing fillies. She benefited when the Steve Warrinton-driven Time Skips By broke stride in the first turn. Truitt got the lead by the three-eighths pole and slapped the reins on the filly's hindquarters to keep her lively. She won by 4 1/2 lengths in 1:57 3/5.
Hank M set a Rosecroft record for 2-year-old trotting geldings in the colt trot by winning in 2:01 for driver Bucky Gray. The old mark was 2:01 2/5 set by Hammer Time in September.
In the 2-year-old filly trot, Tamed Girl, driven by Joe MacDonald, won in 2:03 2/5. Plethora finished second, 3 1/4 lengths back.
