WYCHE HOT: Bengals Coach Sam Wyche, fined nearly $28,000 by Paul Tagliabue for barring a female reporter from his locker room, says the commissioner's office may be leaking internal reports to news organizations.

Will McDonough reported Sunday on NBC that the NFL's investigation of the Lisa Olson incident says it has been exaggerated.

"That knocks me over to think that Will McDonough can call somebody with what he calls contacts and someone in the league office can release on Sunday at 12:30 the contents of a private investigation," Wyche said.

He insists someone in the NFL office leaked his salary to reporters in the days after Tagliabue fined him one-17th of his $475,000 annual salary -- almost $28,000.

"Many of you called the league office to find out what I make," Wyche told reporters. "That's none of your business."

Wyche also blasted remarks Sunday by NBC analyst Bill Walsh that the Bengals were a disappointment and that they were among the teams that failed to properly prepare for the season.

Wyche, a former assistant to Walsh, the ex-49ers coach, said, "I'm amazed that the things that aggravated him as a coach seem to be popular with him now."

LOTTO: S Ronnie Lott says the 49ers offered him a "fantastic" three-year contract extension that would pay him more per year than his current $800,000.

"I think it's something I should accept," said Lott, 31, in the final year of a multiyear pact.

But the new deal is not guaranteed: "At my age? I wish."

WLAF STUFF: The World League of American Football has offered contracts to five Britons, including a kicker who holds the British record with a field goal of 54 yards. The WLAF held tryouts in London and attracted about 125 Britons. The kicker is Philip Alexander, a former soccer player.
