NEW YORK, NOV. 24 -- Fordham took a 53-27 halftime advantage, led by 40 points after intermission and easily defeated Navy, 103-84, in the Midshipmen's opening basketball game of the season today.

Fordham, which lost its opener to Notre Dame in the preseason NIT tournament, evened its record at 1-1.

Navy trailed by 12-10 after a follow-up layup by Chuck Robinson with 13:49 left in the first half. Fordham then went on a 20-2 run, with junior forward Fred Herzog getting eight of those points, to give the Rams a 32-12 lead with 8:25 remaining in the first half. Navy got no closer than 15 points the rest of the game. Fordham built its margin to 97-57 with 8:01 remaining before substituting liberally.

The Rams were led by 6-foot-9 senior center Damon Lopez, who finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds in only 28 minutes. Lopez was eight of 10 from the floor and scored 14 of his 23 points in the first eight minutes of the second half. Fordham was helped by junior guard Jean Prioleau (20 points in 23 minutes) and junior forward Sanford Jenkins (18 points and 10 rebounds in 21 minutes).

Navy was led by junior guard Erik Harris, who had 19 points on six of 17 from the floor. Senior center Eddie Reddick had 18 points and seven rebounds.

Navy hosts Mount St. Mary's Monday at 7:30 p.m.
