Mark Brisker hit his fifth three-pointer as the buzzer sounded and Stetson foiled a Purdue comeback, 58-56. Purdue, down 43-21 at halftime, had rallied to take a 56-53 lead.

Marshall Wilson's four three-pointers in the first 3:10 helped No. 21 Georgia coast to a 90-45 victory over Richmond. Georgia set tournament records for points and winning margin. The 45-point defeat was the Spiders' worst in Coach Dick Tarrant's 10 years.


George Lynch scored 18 points as No. 5 North Carolina defeated San Diego State, 99-63, for Coach Dean Smith's 689th victory.

Malik Sealy scored 43 points and No. 25 St. John's kept its record perfect in its own Lapchick Memorial Tournament. The Redmen are 32-0 and have won all 16 years.


Calbert Cheaney scored 23 points and Eric Anderson had 18 as No. 8 Indiana defeated Santa Clara, 73-69, in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational. In the other semifinal, No. 13 Syracuse beat Iowa State, 83-67.


George Washington lost its opener, to Loyola by 87-78. Dirkk Surles led the Colonials with 20 points. Fordham rolled by Navy, 103-84.

George Mason stopped Miami, 97-91, as junior guard Mike Hargett scored 32 points.


Daedra Charles scored 19 of her 24 points in the second half Saturday to lead No. 6 Tennessee to a 95-80 upset of No. 2 Stanford, the defending NCAA women's champion.
