East Tennessee State made seven of its first 10 three-point tries to build a 15-point halftime lead, going on to a 105-92 victory over George Mason before 6,560 last night at Memorial Center in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Patriots (1-1) opened with a 97-91 victory at Miami Friday night. The Buccaneers (2-1), who beat Brigham Young and lost to then-No. 3 Arizona in the preseason NIT, were led by Keith Jennings with 21 points.

George Mason, which never got closer than seven in the second half, was led by Robert Dykes with 24 points and Mike Hargett with 23.

Navy 116, Mount St. Mary's 98: Michael Burd scored 27 points, on a school record nine three-pointers, to lead the Midshipmen at home.

John Haase had 25 for Navy (1-1), which posted its second-highest point total ever. The Midshipmen scored 126 against Western Maryland in 1952.

Guard Kevin Booth of Mount St. Mary's (0-2) hurt his left knee in the first half and did not return. He will be examined today.

Mont-Rock 90, Essex CC 65: Ed Farrell scored 29 points and Doug Whalen and Brian Foley each added 17 to lead Montgomery-Rockville (1-1) at home. Essex was led by Jerry Dixon, who had 15 points.
