Oregon State -- Jerry Pettibone, who built a winning team at Northern Illinois and served as recruiting coordinator for some of nation's top college football programs, including Oklahoma and Nebraska, was named head coach. He replaces Dave Kragthorpe, who resigned in mutual agreement with school administration after compiling 17-48-2 record in six seasons.
American -- MF Jon Hall and D Raj Lalchan were named to South Atlantic all-American soccer teams. Hall was named to first team, Lalchan to second unit.
Bowling Green -- Named Ohio State assistant Gary Blackney as head football coach. Blackney replaces Moe Ankney, who was fired Nov. 11 after compiling a 20-31-3 record in five years, including 3-5-2 this past season.
Abilene Christian -- Named Ronnie Peacock, an assistant at Arkansas Tech, as head football coach. He replaces John Payne, whose Wildcats were 1-9 this past season.
George Mason -- Signed for women's basketball 6-2 F Malaika Stewart, honorable mention all-American from Albany (N.Y.) High School.

Baseball -- Free agent P Matt Young signed Tuesday with Boston Red Sox. He played last season with Seattle Mariners.
