HONORS: John Stockton, who sparked the Jazz to four straight wins, is player of the week.

He averaged 19.3 points, 18.3 assists and 4.5 steals during the week and had a .596 field goal percentage. He nailed four of eight three-point attempts and moved into second place in the league in assists behind Magic Johnson and second in steals behind Alvin Robertson.

Stockton's best game of the week came on the road Saturday when he scored 27 points and had 23 assists in a 105-95 victory over the Clippers. He had three rebounds and four steals and made nine of 16 shots.

He beat out Akeem Olajuwon of Houston, who averaged 30.7 points, 17.3 rebounds, 4.7 blocks and 2.0 steals in three games last week.

EARLY RETURNS: Xavier McDaniel had 17 points and nine rebounds for Phoenix, Eddie Johnson six points for Seattle in their weekend debuts with their new clubs. The SuperSonics traded McDaniel to the Suns last week for Johnson and two first-round draft picks.

HOME RUNS: Milwaukee is 10-0 at Bradley Center, one of two teams undefeated at home. Detroit is 8-0 at The Palace of Auburn Hills. . . . With four of its next five games at home Portland (18-1) has a chance to tie the 1969-70 Knicks for the all-time best start of 23-1.
