WBC Super Middleweights -- In Monte Carlo, Italy's Mauro Galvano (16-1-2) scored a unanimous 12-round decision over Dario Matteoni (26-1-2) of Argentina to win the title vacated by Sugar Ray Leonard.


Houston -- Football coach John Jenkins agreed to four-year rollover contract that both he and Athletic Director Rudy Davalos termed a lifetime commitment. He will earn $108,000 a year in salary.

Miami -- Reinstated Leonard Conley after teammates voted to allow the suspended RB to play in the Jan. 1 Cotton Bowl.


Alpine World Cup -- Atle Skaardal ended up the way he started, No. 1, in a Cup downhill skiing race in Santa Christina, Italy, while Norway emerged as a power in Alpine skiing. The Norwegian team placed two skiers among the top four for the second consecutive day, and four Norwegians were among the top 10 in the overall Cup standings. In women's Cup competition, fog and course layout forced officials to cut short super-giant slalom in Meiringen, Switzerland, depriving Petra Kronberger of an apparent victory.

Speed Skating -- Bonnie Blair of the United States won the women's 500-meter race and finished third in the 1,000 in the World Cup meet in Nagano, Japan.
