Sixteen first-time All-Stars were added to the Wales and Campbell Conference teams, including Oilers goaltender Bill Ranford, the Stanley Cup playoffs MVP last year.

He is one of three members of the NHL champions who will play Jan. 19 for the Campbell Conference in the All-Star Game in Chicago.

Also added to the team from the Oilers were defenseman Steve Smith and center Mark Messier, the NHL's most valuable player last season.

Among additions to the Wales squad were Bruins goalie Andy Moog; defensemen Kevin Hatcher of the Capitals and Brian Leetch of the Rangers; center Pat LaFontaine of the Islanders; and right wing John MacLean of the Devils.

The Wales starters will be goalie Patrick Roy of the Canadiens; defensemen Paul Coffey of the Penguins and Ray Bourque of the Bruins; center Joe Sakic of the Nordiques; and wingers Rick Tocchet of the Flyers and Cam Neely of the Bruins. The teams are listed on page E8.

Defenseman Gerald Diduck has walked out on the Montreal Canadiens and Coach Pat Burns said he will not return "as long as I'm coach."

Diduck, acquired in a preseason trade with the New York Islanders, argued Saturday with Burns after learning he would not play that night against Quebec.
