CLEMSON, S.C., JAN. 8 -- Bryant Stith scored five of his 21 points in the final 2:06 tonight to help No. 13 Virginia hold off Clemson for an 82-78 ACC victory.
The Cavaliers (10-2, 2-0) led by 71-55 with 6:57 to play, but saw that dwindle to 74-72 with 3:11 remaining.
Sean Tyson scored eight points during the Tigers' run and freshman Eric Burks, who led Clemson (8-5, 0-3) with 20 points, hit two three-pointers.
The Tigers had a chance to tie at 74 but turned the ball over. Stith followed with a three-pointer and Clemson never threatened again.
Kenny Turner added 19 points for Virginia while Anthony Oliver had 18, Ted Jeffries 11 and John Crotty 10.
Dale Davis had 16 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots for Clemson, while Tyson added 15 points.
Clemson trailed by 43-42 at halftime and regained the lead when Davis hit a short jumper. Virginia then went on a 23-8 run for a 66-52 lead with 11:25 left.
Burks followed with a 3-pointer 1:01 later to cut the lead to 11, but Virginia ran off five straight points.
Davis followed Stith's three-pointer with a jumper to make it 77-74, but Oliver got a layup off the fast break and Stith added a dunk for a seven-point lead with 58 seconds to play.
Burks hit a three-pointer with 48 seconds left and Colby Brown hit a free throw with 28 seconds left for Clemson's final points.
Clemson shot 17 for 29 in the first half, but made only 11 of 31 in the second half.
The loss broke a 13-game homecourt conference winning streak for the Tigers, dating back to January 1989.
Radford 86, Charleston Southern 75: In Radford, Va., Doug Day had 33 points and Ron Shelburne scored six of his 13 points in a first-half run that sent the Highlanders to a Big South Conference victory.
Shelburne fueled a 12-0 rally that helped Radford (9-3, 2-0) break from a tie and move to a 46-34 halftime lead.
Charleston Southern (3-6, 1-1) got no closer than 65-59 on a hook shot by Bernard Nelson.
