Ana Marjanovic made two free throws with eight seconds remaining to secure Maryland's 68-63 victory over Wake Forest in an ACC women's game last night in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Senior Jenny Mitchell's basket with 20 seconds left brought the Demon Deacons to within four points. She was hit in the eye on the play, and Beth Davis stepped in to make a foul shot.
Wake Forest's Sabrina Slone then fouled Marjanovic while Maryland (8-5, 1-0) worked for a shot, setting up the free throws.
For the final 1:22, Wake Forest (10-4, 1-1) was without Nicole Levesque, who fouled out after scoring a team-high 17 points, including five three-point shots.
Dafne Lee and Bonnie Rimkus led the Terrapins with 14 points each; teammate Jessie Hicks had nine rebounds.
Navy 74, Davis and Elkins 53: In Annapolis, junior guard Angie Dobbs scored 25 points as the Midshipmen (6-5) won their third straight.
After Davis and Elkins cut Navy's lead to 31-30 early in the second half, the Mids ran off 10 consecutive points. After coming back to 58-53, Davis and Elkins was held scoreless for the final 2:45 as Navy ran off 16 points.
Sophomore Kim Drayton had 13 points and Pauline Holzhauer 10 for Navy.
