Steve Hood hit an 18-foot jumper with 2:15 left to give James Madison the lead for good en route to a 72-68 victory last night over East Carolina in a Colonial Athletic Association game in Greenville, N.C.
Hood's shot put James Madison (7-6, 2-0) ahead 64-63, and the Dukes held off the Pirates (7-6, 1-2) down the stretch.
East Carolina was led by Steve Richardson, who scored 32 points, including six three-pointers. Freshman Lester Lyons had 20 points.
Long Island 68, Mount St. Mary's 65: Brent McCollin's 20 points led the Blackbirds (5-7, 1-3) past the Mountaineers (4-9, 2-1) in a Northeastern Conference game in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Prince George's CC 102, Howard CC 68: Vincent Smith led the Owls with 17 points to dominate the visiting Iron Horse Express.
Montgomery-Rockville CC 90, Chesapeake CC 52: Jay Phillips's 24 points led the Knights at home, their second straight. The Knights are 6-9. Chesapeake fell to 0-9.
Gallaudet 81, St. Mary's 68: Anthony Jones had 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bison (6-5) at Gallaudet. James Segala added 18 points. St. Mary's (5-8) was led by Greg Cain's 20.
Salisbury St. 89, Washington College 71: Andre Foreman had 29 points and 11 rebounds as the Sea Gulls (9-4) led throughout. Darren Vican led Washington (4-8) with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Shenandoah 108, Mary Washington 71: Shenandoah improved to 10-2 by putting six players in double figures, led by Brian Cooper's 16 points, and won easily at home. Mary Washington (3-7) was led by Richie Treger's 17 points.
Dominican 79, UDC 69: James Harris scored 24 points to lead the Penguins (7-6) over the Firebirds (2-12) in the consolation game of the Indiana (Pa.) University Holiday Classic. Valentine Igwe led UDC with 20 points.
