Men's World Cup Skiing -- At Kitzbuehel, Austria, Luxembourg's Marc Girardelli won slalom and took combined title. He leads overall standings over Franz Heinzer, 151-129.

Women's World Cup Skiing -- Austria's Petra Kronberger, eighth after one run, won slalom at Kranjska Gora, Yugoslavia. Overall, she leads runner-up Sabine Gunther, 226-78.

COLLEGES

Big East -- Named Pittsburgh's Brian Shorter (Oak Hill Academy) player of week for 32 points, 11 rebounds in 93-79 win over Syracuse and 23 points, 13 rebounds in 101-82 win over Providence. Georgetown's Robert Churchwell (Gonzaga High) averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds for rookie of week.

HIGH SCHOOLS

Wilson -- At East Coast Invitational Indoor Track Meet in Richmond, Cydnee Randall took second in 1600-meter race-walk (10:31), Keisha Caine third in 500 run (1:21.6) and Pri Gupta third in 3,200 run (9:59).

Soccer -- Former Howard coach Ted Chambers, a Washington native, was inducted into National Soccer Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame at annual convention in Atlanta.

Dallas Cowboys -- Received permission to talk with Dolphins assistant Gary Stevens.

San Diego Chargers -- Told FS Vencie Glenn, LB Cedric Figaro, S Lester Lyles they won't be asked back. Defensive line coach Gunther Cunningham said he won't return.
