Former heavyweight champion George Foreman, who will fight for the title again in April, has welcomed the arrival of his ninth child -- his fourth little George. Foreman's wife, Joan, gave birth at Northeast Memorial Hospital in Houston to a son weighing 8 pounds 13 ounces. The latest arrival was named George V. The fighter's other three sons also are named George. . . .

A federal judge in Newark, N.J., refused to consider a lawsuit over the World Boxing Council heavyweight title, bumping the case back to state court, where a judge already has ordered arbitration.

WBC attorney Gabriel Penagaricano said the council would seek speedy arbitration of its effort to strip heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield of his title for not fighting former champion Mike Tyson. . . .

There have been some changes on the Jan. 21 card at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Rockville. Maryland cruiserweight champion Phil Gilberti (12-5, 12 knockouts) will meet Dean Moore (9-15-2) of Forest City, N.C., in the main event. Rockville lightweight Wilfredo de la Cruz (5-4-2) will meet Doug Petteford (6-7-1) of Wilmington, Del. John Bizzarro (9-1-1) will face Paul Gentry in a junior welterweight matchup and Washington light heavyweight David Izeqwire (2-0) will meet Dexter Nicholson of Greenwood, S.C.

The fights will begin at 7:30 p.m.
