LYNCHBURG, VA., JAN. 18 -- Antoinette Battle, Marcel Harrison and Karen Bruining each scored nine points as George Mason overcame a six-point halftime deficit to register a 55-47 women's college basketball victory over Liberty University tonight.

Theresa Bream finished with a game-high 18 points for Liberty (5-8).

After Liberty built a 23-17 halftime lead, George Mason (9-6) scored the first seven points of the second half to go up 24-23.

Monique Hilton's basket with 5:15 remaining gave the Patriots a 46-38 lead.

Defense was the key for the Patriots, who forced 12 turnovers and mounted a comeback on solid defense, with Laura Teter getting six steals. Mason also had a balanced offensive attack, with eight players scoring.

Gallaudet 80, Shenandoah 71: Connie Franks had 20 points and 10 rebounds as Gallaudet (6-7) recovered from a 24-2 deficit in Winchester, Va. Shenandoah (6-8) was led by Dana Painter's 21 points. Takoma Park Wins

Kenny Diggs had 26 points and eight rebounds and Al Welch had 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead Montgomery-Takoma Park to a 119-85 victory last night over Charles County in Takoma Park.

Charles County (7-8) was led by Lamont Saxon's 31 points.

Montgomery-Germantown 97, Howard CC 68: Josh Pratt scored 19 points and Diallo Nelson had 17 points, 7 steals and 7 assists to lead the Gryphons (10-8) at home.

Howard was led by Paul Graham's 30 points.
