Mark Karver and Sonni Holland scored 19 points each to lead George Washington to a 73-65 victory over St. Joseph's in an Atlantic 10 Conference game before 3,101 yesterday in Philadelphia.

Karver, a fifth-year senior, connected on eight of nine shots (including all three of his three-point attempts) en route to his career-high scoring total.

George Washington (9-6, 3-4) led by 11 in the first half before St. Joseph's (5-10, 2-6) mounted a comeback. The Hawks used a 19-0 spree to take a 48-42 lead.

But Karver, starting for the third time in his career, hit his third three-pointer and scored seven points over the next seven minutes to bring the Colonials back. Holland then scored seven points over the game's final four minutes.

St. Joseph's was led by Rap Curry (17 points, seven rebounds) and Matt Guokas (13 points).

Mount St. Mary's 76, Marist 71: Alex Watson had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists as the Mountaineers won a Northeast Conference game in Emmitsburg, Md.

Leading by 59-49 with 10:32 left, the Mountaineers (6-10, 4-2) went on a 9-2 run. Marist (1-13, 0-4) cut the deficit to 74-71 with 18 seconds to play.

Randolph-Macon 85, Washington and Lee 67: Troy Smith and Jeff Taylor each scored 19 as the Yellow Jackets (13-1, 7-0) posted an Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory in Ashland, Va. Mike Holton (19 points) made four of six three-point attempts for the Generals (8-8, 4-5).

Point Park 93, UDC 81: In Pittsburgh, Derek Parker scored 31 and Randy Smith had 26 points and 10 rebounds as the Pioneers improved to 7-10. Henry Moton led the Firebirds (2-16) with 25 points.

Prince George's 90, Garrett 80: Morris Mercer scored 26 points as the Owls (11-7) won in Largo. Chuckie Moore had 21 points for Garrett (13-16).

Mary Washington 85, St. Mary's 80: Bernard Johnson had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Eagles (4-9) at home. St. Mary's (5-10) had six players in double figures, led by Chris DeLisi's 14.
