GOLDEN: Tim Hardaway of Golden State says that he tries not to get excited by the prospect of making the all-star team and that there are a lot of great guards in the Western Conference. The way he's going, though, only Magic Johnson may have better credentials. Around the league the young Warrior is already rated with Kevin Johnson, John Stockton and Clyde Drexler.

Numbers? At last look Hardaway ranked second in the NBA in steals, fourth in three-point shooting, seventh in assists and 18th in scoring. He averaged 22.9 points, 9.6 assists, 2.8 steals and 3.7 rebounds despite being only 6 feet, 175 pounds. Last week he established back-to-back career highs in points, with 37 against the Celtics, 40 vs. the 76ers.

NOTES: The Bulls and Nuggets (says Newsday) apparently have agreed on a deal that would send Walter Davis to Chicago, but the Bulls also have made an offer to Yugoslavian star Toni Kukoc and, because of salary-cap complications, they want to wait until Kukoc accepts or declines before completing the Davis deal. . . . When Wayman Tisdale went on the injured list with a foot injury, the Kings replaced him with Andy Frederick, who was playing for the Oklahoma City Cavalry in the CBA. One of the part-owners of the Cavalry is Wayman Tisdale.
