COMEBACK: Maryland fought back from a 17-point deficit at halftime to beat South Florida, 87-81, before 8,395 at the Sun Dome in Tampa. Behind the play of seniors Cedric Lewis and Matt Roe and using a full court press, the Terrapins (9-7) ended their three-game losing streak and the Bulls' 15-game home winning streak. WRECKED: Georgia Tech embarassed No. 14 Virginia 78-51, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets (10-5, 2-2) were led by Kenny Anderson's 21 points and Jon Barry's 15. The Cavaliers (11-4, 3-2) failed to have a player reach double figures as Tech built a 17-point halftime lead. STREAK STOPPERS: Reserve Thomas Hill scored 20 points and Christian Laettner added 18 as No. 12 Duke defeated No. 5 North Carolina, 74-60, in Durham, N.C., ending the Tar Heels' 11-game winning streak and putting the Blue Devils atop the ACC. The Blue Devils (15-3, 4-1) erased a four-point halftime deficit and the Tar Heels (13-2, 2-1) shot just 27 percent in the second half. PATRIOTIC: After five straight home losses, George Mason finally won at Patriot Center. The Patriots defeated Navy for the seventh straight time, 93-82, as Robert Dykes had 28 points and Mike Hargett added 25. George Mason (6-11 overall, 3-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association) moved into a third-place tie with American in the CAA. James Madison (4-0) is first and William and Mary (3-1) second. TRAVELIN' MAN: James Madison held off a late surge by American to earn a 67-65 victory in a key CAA game in Harrisonburg, Va. The Eagles, who had a three-game winning streak snapped, had a chance to tie in the closing seconds but senior guard Brock Wortman was called for traveling.
