Edmonton has lost three in a row. The Oilers had not lost more than two straight since dropping nine in a row from Oct. 21 to Nov. 8. . . . Vancouver is 3-16-2 in its last 21 games; 2-10-0 in its last 12 on the road. . . . The Islanders are in a 0-4-2 slide.
TAKING THEIR SHOTS:
Vancouver outshot the Rangers 62-34 in a 3-3 tie on Jan. 31. In the rematch on Friday night, the Rangers outshot Vancouver 51-28, including 42-12 in the first two periods.
The Rangers' Bernie Nicholls returned to the lineup Friday after missing five games with a shoulder separation. He had a goal in New York's 8-1 win over Vancouver. . . . Mario Lemieux, who injured a groin muscle on Sunday, returned to Pittsburgh's lineup on Friday.
Buffalo's Alexander Mogilny left the Sabres' game with Los Angeles with a separated shoulder midway through the third period. He was injured when Rob Blake tripped him in front of the Kings' goal and he smashed headfirst into the boards. The Sabres say he's expected to be out for a week.
MAJOR GAME IN MINORS:
Doug Shedden posted a team-record seven points Friday night as Newmarket (Maple Leafs) defeated Utica (Devils) 9-5 in an AHL game. Shedden scored a goal in each period and added four assists.
