ARCADIA, CALIF., FEB. 17 -- Farma Way rallied from fifth at the halfway point to capture his fourth straight win today with a 2 1/2-length decision in the $331,750 San Antonio Handicap.
Ridden by Gary Stevens, the 4-year-old colt ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:47 1/5.
The British-bred Anshan, with Chris McCarron, finished second and the Irish-bred Louis Cyphre and Argentine-bred Festin crossed over the wire in a dead heat for third, only another half-length back in the field of nine 4-year-olds and up.
The 2-1 favorite Flying Continental finished fifth.
Farma Way, a Kentucky-bred son of Marfa and Fine Tribute, won $196,750 to boost his career earnings to $652,176. His has won six of his 15 outings.
The winner paid $5, $3.20 and $2.80. Anshan returned $6 and $4.20, Louis Cyphre $4.20 and Festin $3.
Farma Way carried second high weight of 118, three less than Flying Continental, but two more than Anshan.
Raced Stylish and Louis Cyphre set the early pace with Farma Way fifth. But when Stevens let him go, the colt surged past Anshan, then Kaboi and grabbed the lead with about three-fourths of a mile left. Anshan came on in the stretch to take the runner-up spot.
Finishing behind the first five were Missionary Ridge, Kaboi, Jovial and Stylish Stud.
Also, the Santa Anita stewards suspended veteran jockey Laffit Pincay for five racing days, starting Feb. 21. The board ruled the jockey, riding Viento Vailador in the third race Saturday, allowed his mount to cross over without sufficient clearance.
The incident occurred shortly after the start of the race. Viento Vailador finished first but was disqualified. Aqueduct Thrill
NEW YORK, Feb. 17 -- I'm A Thriller stalked the leaders for most of the race, then came through on the inside to win the $113,200 Busher Breeders' Cup for 3-year-old fillies at Aqueduct today.
The winner, ridden by Art Madrid, covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:52 2/5 and finished 3 1/2 lengths ahead of Ten Out Of Ten. Crafty Lady was another third.
