A STORY IN FRIDAY'S EDITIONS INCORRECTLY IDENTIFIED THE W.T. WOODSON BOYS SOCCER PLAYER WHO SCORED THE FOURTH GOAL IN THURSDAY'S VIRGINIA AAA NORTHERN REGION SEMIFINAL. ERIC GOLDSTEIN SCORED THE GOAL. (PUBLISHED 05/30/99)

Oakton junior forward Justin Bogner had a goal and an assist when he left last night's Northern Region boys soccer semifinal with a concussion about two minutes after halftime. Before the ambulance that came to pick up Bogner had left the grounds at Annandale High School, the No. 3 Cougars had added two more goals for an eventual 4-0 victory over No. 7 T.C. Williams.

In the second semifinal, W.T. Woodson (12-5-1) defeated Herndon, 4-0. Junior forward Abe Thompson scored the Cavaliers' first three goals and sophomore William Packard added an insurance goal. Woodson earned a berth in the state quarterfinals while upstart Herndon finished the season 12-8-1.

Thompson, a two-time All-Met, has 20 goals in 11 games.

Oakton (18-1-1) and Woodson will play in tonight's Northern Region final at Stuart at 8.

In the first game, just after medical personnel took Bogner off the field on a stretcher, Oakton senior Kenny Arena converted a penalty kick the referee called when T.C. Williams goalkeeper Joel Boyd collided with Bogner. Arena's goal made the score 3-0, and Oakton padded its lead less than a minute later when junior Carlos Munoz sent Carlo Martinez in alone against Boyd and the senior midfielder scored from six yards.

Fairfax Hospital officials said Bogner had a concussion and was released last night. Bogner left the only two games that Oakton did not win this season with injuries.

"He is very important to the way we play," Oakton senior sweeper Keith Nakai said. "You worry about it during the game, but [Oakton Coach T.J. White] told us he would be all right, so that made us feel better and motivated us to win it for him."

Oakton (18-1-1) has won its five playoff games by a combined score of 19-0.

"Oakton completely dominated the game from start to finish," T.C. Williams Coach Martin Nickley said.
