Left-hander John Parrish struck out 10 and gave up six hits in seven innings to earn his first victory of the season as the Frederick Keys topped the host Lynchburg Hillcats, 4-2, last night for their second straight Class A Carolina League win.
Darnell McDonald and Eddy Martinez drove in runs as the Keys (26-27) built a 4-1 lead after six innings. Frederick also took advantage of two Lynchburg (26-26) errors to score a pair of unearned runs.
Brian Murphy threw two innings of one-hit relief to earn his third save of the season. McDonald, Eddy Garabito and Joey Hammond each had two hits in the 11-hit Keys' attack.
BLUE ROCKS 8, CANNONS 3: The Cannons' hitting woes continued as host Wilmington completed a three-game sweep of the Class A Carolina League series. Three Blue Rocks pitchers held the Cannons to six hits.
Wilmington scored four runs in the first two innings off Potomac starter Robert Smith (0-1), who lasted five innings. The Blue Rocks pounded out 13 hits against Potomac pitchers. Potomac designated hitter Andy Bevins continued his hot streak at the plate with his 11th homer, a double and two RBI. Bevins has five hits and seven RBI in his last four games. Right fielder William Ortega homered and scored two runs for the Cannons (19-34).
BAYSOX 7, ROCK CATS 6: Tim DeCinces homered twice to help lead the Baysox to the 12-inning Class AA Eastern League win in New Haven, Conn. Bowie pitcher Mike Bell improved to 4-0, and reliever Mike McDougal notched his third save.
