Coach: Brian Agler

First-year program

Just call them the Columbus Quest/West. Agler, who led the now-defunct Quest to back-to-back ABL titles, brought five of his former Columbus players over to the expansion Lynx. They will have the added benefit of already being familiar with Agler's system. Katie Smith, a two-time ABL Eastern Conference all-star selection with the Quest, was allocated to the Lynx by the WNBA. Smith is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and hopes to be back on the court by July. She led Columbus in scoring with a career average of 16.6 ppg, and started 100 straight games. During the 1997-98 ABL season, Smith ranked second in the league in free-throw percentage (.893), seventh in scoring (17.4 ppg) and seventh in three-point percentage (.401). Joining Smith from Columbus is another two-time ABL Eastern Conference all-star, Tonya Edwards. She was the Quest's second-leading scorer behind Smith. Other former Quest players include Andrea Lloyd-Curry, Sonja Tate and Angie Potthoff. Agler's teams usually are defense-oriented. His Quest team led the ABL in team defense every season, but also was near the top in scoring. Trisha Fallon, a combination guard-forward, was the leading scorer and most valuable player in the Italian League after leading her team to the Coppa Italia title. Adia Barnes started 16 games for the Sacramento Monarchs last season and averaged 7.6 points per game.
