While RB Marshall Faulk waits for his contract to be reworked, he is sitting out the Rams' minicamp that began yesterday. Coach Dick Vermeil said it was out of sight, out of mind.
"Yeah, I'm disappointed he's not here, but that's his prerogative," Vermeil said. "I thought he would be here, but he and his agent made that decision. As far as I'm concerned, it's a dead issue. He is not the topic of conversation around here. He knows where he belongs."
After the Rams acquired Faulk from the Colts two days before April's draft, he said he wouldn't attend any team functions until he got a new deal. He changed his mind for the first minicamp last month and showed up as an act of "good faith."
The Rams are believed to be offering Faulk a multiyear deal worth about $5 million a year and Vermeil said he thought the negotiations were going well. But Faulk's agent said no deal was imminent.
IT'S OFFICIAL: DE Chris Doleman officially retired from the 49ers, which he announced he would do after the 49ers' 20-18 playoff loss to the Falcons last season. He finished with 142 1/2 sacks to rank fourth all-time in NFL history.
