Three Frederick pitchers combined on a shutout, leading the Keys to a 6-0 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats last night in a Class A Carolina League in Lynchburg, Va.

Starter Jay Spurgeon (5-5) yielded three hits over five innings and struck out four batters for Frederick. Kasey Richardson pitched the next 3 2/3 innings, and yielded two hits. Closer Derek Brown retired the final batter.

The bulk of the offensive production for the Keys (12-15) came from their top four hitters: Darnell McDonald (2-5), Eddy Garabito (2-5, RBI), Joey Hammond (3-4) and Ivanon Coffie (2-4, 2 RBI).

PELICANS 10, CANNONS 5: Left fielder Jeff Spencer went 3 for 5 as Myrtle Beach (14-13) defeated visiting Potomac (10-14) in a Carolina League game. The Cannons led 5-4 in the sixth before surrendering six runs over the next three innings.

SEAWOLVES 4, BAYSOX 3: Bowie (53-44) held a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but host Erie rallied with single runs in the seventh and eighth to win the Class AA Eastern League game. Luis Matos, Tom Hage and Rick Short each had two hits for the Baysox.
