One of Sean Elliott's brothers meets the player's need for a kidney transplant, San Antonio television station KSAT reported yesterday.
The station, quoting an unidentified source close to Elliott, said further testing is expected and the transplant could be completed this week.
The Spurs forward has two brothers, Noel and Robert. The station did not say which brother was the match. Elliott's relatives and team officials declined to comment to KSAT about the report.
The San Antonio Express-News reported blood samples were taken from Elliott's brothers and his mother, Odiemae.
"I drew the blood and packaged it myself last Monday," said Sean's father, Robert Elliott, who is a medical technician in Tucson. He was not a candidate to provide a kidney because he is diabetic.
