Crystal Robinson scored 18 points to lead five players in double figures as the New York Liberty beat the Miracle, 80-75, last night in Orlando.

It was New York's fourth win in five games, as it swept the four-game season series from the Miracle (10-16). The win, combined with Charlotte's 67-65 loss at Utah last night, gave New York (15-11) a one-game lead for first in the Eastern Conference.

New York, trailing 33-31 at halftime, got a pair of three-pointers from Robinson early in the second half to take the lead for good. Orlando pulled to 71-68 with 2 minutes 14 seconds remaining but Kym Hampton, plagued by foul trouble for most of the game, hit a turnaround jump shot with the shot clock running down to give the Liberty a 73-68 lead with 1:36 left.

After an Orlando basket, Hampton grabbed an offensive rebound to give her team an extra possession. Teresa Weatherspoon was subsequently fouled and hit both free throws to push the advantage back to five.

MERCURY 64, LYNX 55: Maria Stepanova had 12 points and 13 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double for host Phoenix. Jennifer Gillom added 15 points for the Mercury (12-14), which pulled even with the Lynx for fourth in the Western Conference.

STARZZ 67, STING 65: In Salt Lake City, Margo Dydek had 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks to lead Utah. After trailing 66-60, the Sting (15-13) closed to 66-65 with 1:51 remaining on a layup by Dawn Staley, but did not score again.

SHOCK 84, SPARKS 59: Reserve Dominique Canty scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half as Detroit won in Inglewood, Calif. Jennifer Azzi added 15 points and recently acquired Wendy Palmer had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit.
