Mariners OF Jay Buhner's suspension for his part in a brawl last month was reduced to three games from four yesterday by the American League.

However, Mariners P Frank Rodriguez was unable to get the league to reduce his seven-game suspension for a different incident.

"I would have thought my suspension would have been reduced by at least one day," said Rodriguez, who charged after and punched Yankees C Joe Girardi in a game Aug. 6.

"How many times does a reliever get more than five games?"

Buhner was disciplined for his part in a bench-clearing brawl during a game against the Dodgers on July 11.

Rodriguez's suspension began with last night's game against the Blue Jays.

BIG LUNCH TAB: Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada will probably pay a lot more for yesterday's spaghetti lunch than they ever expected.

Jeter, who spent the afternoon with Posada celebrating the catcher's 28th birthday, missed the Yankees' team photo shoot before a game against the Royals. Manager Joe Torre hinted the two players would be fined.

A notice about the picture had been hanging in the clubhouse for a few days. Jeter and Posada said they just forgot, and showed up too late for the on-field photo.

Jeter and Posada -- who later delivered RBI singles in a 5-2 victory -- will be digitally inserted into the picture.
