Darryl Strawberry hit two home runs Friday night for Class AAA Columbus in the Clippers' 9-6 win over the host Syracuse SkyChiefs.
Strawberry, who was 2 for 5 with four RBI, hit his first homer of the night during a four-run third inning. In the seventh, Strawberry sent a shot over the center field fence for the third homer of his comeback effort to rejoin the Yankees.
"It was just one of those nights," Strawberry said. "The more I play, the more comfortable I feel at the plate."
MOVING ATHLETICS: Rookie 3B Eric Chavez was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with a right foot injury, and the Athletics recalled OF Jason McDonald. Chavez was hurt during an 11-0 loss to the Blue Jays on Friday when he tried to avoid being tagged at first base and his foot landed awkwardly on the bag.
The injury was diagnosed as plantar fascia, a tearing of the membrane in the back of the foot. He's expected to be sidelined at least three weeks.
Chavez, who was hitting .259, was playing well for the A's after a slow start.
Since the all-star break, Chavez was hitting .324 with six home runs and was tied for the AL lead among third basemen with a .958 fielding percentage.
