Padraig Harrington of Ireland played his way on to his first Ryder Cup team today, and captain Mark James selected Scotsman Andrew Coltart as one of his two captain's picks.

Harrington finished second in the BMW International Open and moved up to 10th in the Ryder Cup standings. James then picked Sweden's Jesper Parnevik and Coltart, who has never played in the matches and who has only one tour victory.

"Coltart has played more consistently since the U.S. Open than any of the other candidates," James said. "He's shown the most, and he's one of the Top 20 players in the world."

Seven Europeans have never experienced a Ryder Cup--Coltart, Harrington, Spain's Sergio Garcia, British Open champion Paul Lawrie of Scotland, France's Jean Van de Velde, Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Sweden's Jarmo Sandelin. Parnevik, England's Lee Westwood and Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke have played in only one Ryder Cup.

The experience will come from Jose Maria Olazabal, playing on his fifth team, and Colin Montgomerie, playing on his fourth team. Garcia, 19, is the youngest player in Ryder Cup history.
