Greg Manning, a standout guard on Maryland men's basketball teams from 1977 to '81, will be reunited with Lefty Driesell next month, when he becomes athletic director at Georgia State, where Driesell now coaches.
Manning, 40, has been the Maryland athletic department's director of major gifts and Johnny Holliday's color analyst on radio broadcasts of Terrapins basketball games for the past 14 years.
AGREEMENT: The Atlantic Coast Conference has reached an agreement guaranteeing the conference a fifth bowl game, in the Aloha/Oahu doubleheader to be played Dec. 25 in Honolulu. The ACC team will face either the Pacific-10 Conference's fourth or fifth selection team in the Aloha Bowl or the Oahu Bowl.
HELPING HAND: Virginia Tech wrestler Sean Gray placed sixth in the 138-pound class in helping the United States to a third-place team finish at the junior world freestyle championships in Sydney. Russia won the team title with 60 points, followed by Iran with 46 points and the United States with 43 points.

STARTER: Austin Moherman -- with one career pass attempt and two seasons watching from the sideline at Ohio State -- will start at quarterback Sunday when the ninth-ranked Buckeyes take on No. 12 Miami in the Kickoff Classic.
TRAGEDY: Paul Reyna, a freshman defensive tackle at Boise State, died after being hospitalized following a head injury last week. A statement issued by the school's athletic department said Reyna, 19, died at 5:20 p.m. EDT in the intensive care unit at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Reyna suffered a torn blood vessel between his brain and skull, and the bleeding developed into a blood clot. Reyna was hurt in Boise State's first scrimmage of fall practice.
