Devil Rays DH Jose Canseco yesterday missed his second straight game with a sore ligament in his right hand.

"He said it felt a little bit better," Devil Rays Manager Larry Rothschild said. "It's going to take a few days. It's not going to go away overnight."

FINLEY SCRATCHED: Chuck Finley, Anaheim's scheduled starter last night against the Yankees, was scratched with a strained lower back.

Winless rookie Mike Fyhrie replaced Finley, who has a career record of 16-9 against the Yankees.

Finley suffered the injury during his most recent start, Aug. 31 in Cleveland. He was examined on Saturday by Angels medical director Lewis Yocum, and is day-to-day.

EXTRA BASES: The Athletics' Jason Giambi had not homered in 73 at-bats before his fourth-inning solo shot, his 26th. The homer gave Giambi his 100th RBI of the season, making him just the second Oakland player with consecutive 100 RBI seasons. Canseco did it twice for the A's. . . .

The Tigers' Tony Clark has 16 homers and 45 RBI since the all-star break. Before the break he had eight home runs and 38 RBI. "He's had a heck of a second half," Tigers Manager Larry Parrish said. "He's put up some big numbers for us.". . .

Willie Greene became the first Blue Jays player to hit three pinch homers in a season. . . . A's RHP Jimmy Haynes (7-12) has a 13.15 ERA during his five-game losing streak.
