The Potomac Cannons closed their Class A Carolina League season and avoided a last-place finish with a 15-hit performance and an 11-2 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans last night before 2,570 at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge.

The Cannons finished 30-40 in the second half and beat out the Lynchburg Hillcats for third place in the Northern Division.

The Cannons tagged Myrtle Beach starter Garrett Lee (1-1) for six runs in the first inning. They added a run in the second and four more in the eighth.

All but one player in Potomac's lineup had at least one hit. Aaron Gentry homered and drove in two runs. Andy Bevins, Luke Quaccia and T.J. Maier each had two RBI, and Jack Wilson was 3 for 5 with two runs scored.

Myrtle Beach (44-26) won the Southern Division second-half title by one game over the Kinston Indians, who won the first-half title.

* BAYSOX 8, AEROS 7: In Akron, Ohio, Bowie scored three runs in the top of the ninth and reliever Ryan Kohlmeier notched his 23rd save as the Baysox evened their Class AA Eastern League record at 70-70 entering today's finale.

* KEYS-PELICANS, CCD.: The scheduled Carolina League doubleheader between Frederick and host Kinston was canceled because of rain. The games will not be made up, ending the Keys' season with a 30-37 record in the second half.
