The top-ranked Maryland men's soccer team recorded its fourth straight shutout yesterday, using goals by sophomore F Taylor Twellman and freshman MF Siba Mohammed to defeat North Carolina State, 2-0, in College Park.

It was the fifth straight win for the Terrapins (5-1 overall, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who assumed the No. 1 ranking for the first time in school history last week. The Wolfpack (2-2-1, 0-1) had just five shots.

Twellman headed in Maryland's first goal less than 10 minutes into the game, and he and A.J. Herrera assisted Mohammed's goal in the 63rd minute.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Senior MF Jaime Ricker became George Mason's all-time assists leader during the Patriots' 4-1 victory over Xavier in the final of the Lady Vols Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. . . . Sophomore F Sara Gustafson netted her second goal of the game less than eight minutes into overtime to lift Maryland (3-4-1, 1-0-1 ACC) to a 4-3 upset of No. 9 Duke in Durham, N.C. . . . Carryn Weigand and Katie Tracy scored on headers off second-half corner kicks to lift visiting Virginia (4-2, 2-0) over North Carolina State, 3-1.

FOOTBALL: Curtis Jones (Annapolis High) ran for 154 yards and scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns as host Montgomery-Rockville defeated the Towson JV team, 33-20. The Fighting Knights are 3-0.
