Southern's defense scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery and held eighth-ranked Hampton to two field goals to propel the No. 9 Jaguars to a 21-6 victory in yesterday's annual Circle City Classic in Indianapolis.

Southern (5-0) limited Hampton (4-1) to 85 yards rushing, well shy of its 233-yard average.

Outside linebacker Robert Chapman returned a fumble 35 yards for Southern's second score. Fullback Lee Smith scored Southern's first touchdown on a two-yard run early in the second.

DELAWARE ST. 43, BETHUNE-COOKMAN 29: Junior Grayland King rushed for a career-high 127 yards and quarterback Rahsaan Matthews threw for 166 yards and ran for a touchdown to lead host Delaware State (2-3, 2-1 MEAC) over Bethune-Cookman (3-2, 1-2).

NORTH CAROLINA A&T 28, NORFOLK ST. 14: In Norfolk, Maurice Smith's 75-yard touchdown run triggered a 21-point fourth-quarter burst as North Carolina A&T rallied for the win. The Aggies (3-1, 1-0) and Spartans (1-3, 0-3) were tied at 7 entering the final period, but Smith's touchdown put A&T in front for good with 10 minutes 53 seconds remaining.

CITADEL 20, SOUTH CAROLINA ST. 14: In Charleston, S.C., Chris Eckert completed 10 of 16 passes for 201 yards and a go-ahead touchdown to lead The Citadel (1-3) in the Lowcountry Bulldog Classic.

FLORIDA A&M 66, MORGAN STATE 10: JaJuan Seider threw five touchdowns and ran for two more -- all in the first half -- to lead host Florida A&M (3-2, 3-0).
