Virginia Tech C Keith Short is questionable for Saturday's game against No. 16 Syracuse after he injured his right knee against Rutgers. His backup, Tim Schnecker, was hurt two weeks ago and is out for the rest of the season. That leaves third-string C Steve Demasi to start on Saturday.
"I think there's concern, but you know you're going to get a great effort," Coach Frank Beamer said. "You know Steve is going to give you everything he's got."
Also, for the first time in Tech football history, ESPN's "College GameDay" will be aired live Saturday from Lane Stadium.
WARRICK UPDATE: Florida State WR Peter Warrick won't play Saturday against Wake Forest no matter what happens with theft charges he faces, Seminoles Coach Bobby Bowden said. If Warrick is charged with a misdemeanor, "I'll recommend he plays again," Bowden said on ESPN's "Up Close" last night.
PRESEASON POLL: Virginia was picked to finish third and Maryland eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball preseason poll. North Carolina was picked to finish first with 22 first-place votes. Virginia junior G Erin Stovall was named to the preseason all-conference team.
