North County (6-1) at Old Mill (5-2)
Tonight, 7:30: The Knights, led by record-setting QB Mike Pfisterer, stumbled last week in a 26-21 loss to No. 18 Severna Park. Old Mill has won five consecutive games with an offense averaging 36 points. The winner of this Anne Arundel 4A game stands a good chance of making the Maryland 4A playoffs; the loser might be left home for the postseason.
Herndon (5-2) at Centreville (5-2)
Tonight, 7:30: Another game with huge playoff implications. If Centreville wins, the Wildcats will remain on track to win the Virginia AAA Concorde District title. If Herndon wins, the Hornets stand a good chance to earn an at-large berth in the Division 6 Northern Region playoffs and their Nov. 5 game against South Lakes likely would decide the Concorde champion.
Wakefield (3-4) at Yorktown (4-3)
Tonight, 7:30: Perhaps the weakest league in the Washington area is the Virginia AAA National District, where no team has a record better than 4-3. That said, one team will win the district title and earn a playoff berth. Yorktown (3-0 in the district) can take control of a three-team race by beating Wakefield (3-1 district). A Wakefield victory would leave the two teams and Edison (2-1 district) in a three-way race that could be decided by the tiebreaker of power points.
No. 18 Gar-Field (6-1) at No. 2 Hylton (7-0)
Tonight, 7:30: Both teams appear set for the playoffs. At stake tonight is the inside track for the Virginia AAA Cardinal District title. Hylton, the defending Virginia AAA Division 6 champion, has a 23-game winning streak. The Bulldogs have won their first three Cardinal District games by an average of 20 points. Gar-Field has not been as dominant -- the Indians have scored more than 20 points in just three games -- but still should give Hylton a good test.
