Jamie Barnette's seven-yard quarterback draw in overtime saved North Carolina State's season from slipping away as the Wolfpack rallied to beat Duke, 31-24, yesterday in Durham, N.C.

The Wolfpack (5-3, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) scored 10 points over the final 7 minutes 19 seconds of regulation. Then North Carolina State used seven plays to score first in the extra period to beat Duke (1-6, 1-3) for the sixth straight time.

Sims Lenhardt kicked a season-best 50-yard field goal as time expired to send the Blue Devils to their fourth overtime in their last nine games. The Wolfpack tried to ice him with two timeouts, but he easily cleared the crossbar.

WAKE FOREST 27, UAB 3: In Winston-Salem, N.C., Ben Sankey ran for 108 yards and threw for 132 as Wake Forest (4-3) scored 24 points in the first 11 1/2 minutes. Alabama-Birmingham's first four possessions ended in a blocked punt, an interception and punts of 34 and 20 yards.

The Demon Deacons held the Blazers (3-4) to 165 yards--only 27 rushing.

The margin was Wake Forest's largest since a 66-21 rout of Virginia in 1975.
