Highlights: Defeated Douglas Freeman of Richmond, 5-4, on Saturday at the Raintree Swim and Racquet Club in Richmond to earn its second straight Virginia Group AAA championship. In dual matches this season, Centreville's starting seven compiled an individual match record of 140-22.
Notable: The entire team, with the exception of three-time All-Met Laura James, is expected to return next season. James has accepted a full tennis scholarship to attend Virginia. "She's going to be a big miss," Parker said. No. 2 Kristen James, Laura's sister, is ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic 16-and-under age group and 23rd in the nation. She will participate in a special USTA training camp this weekend in Boston. ... No. 3 Vanderdys never has lost a high school singles match, compiling a 38-0 record. No. 4 Nolen had crucial singles victories in this year's semifinals and finals. "Jenny is the unsung hero on this team and was last year as well," Parker said.
The boys Athlete of the Week will be featured Wednesday.
