Rookie goaltender Martin Biron posted his fourth straight win and Buffalo erupted for three goals in the second period to snap Boston's six-game winning streak with a 6-2 victory last night in Buffalo.
Biron (6-1) made 21 saves, including 12 in the first period, and the Sabres won their fourth straight and sixth of their last seven after starting out 0-5-2.
Erik Rasmussen, Vaclav Varada, Miroslav Satan, Alexei Zhitnik, Maxim Afinogenov and Jay McKee scored for the Sabres, who outshot the Bruins 35-23.
Boston goalie Byron Dafoe, playing in only his second game of the season since ending a holdout and signing a new contract, was pulled midway through the second period after allowing four goals on 20 shots.
PENGUINS 5, CANADIENS 4: Jaromir Jagr's second goal of the game with 50 seconds left in the third period completed a four-goal comeback that ended the host Penguins' eight-game winless streak. Montreal is winless in nine games at 0-8-1.
Jagr scored the game-winner on a two-on-one break with German Titov and completed an outburst of four goals in less than seven minutes for the Penguins, who had been 0-6-2 in their last eight.
RED WINGS 4, STARS 2: Steve Yzerman scored two goals, the second a short-handed tally early in the third period, as the Red Wings beat the Stars in Dallas.
With the Stars trying to tie the game on a third-period power play, Yzerman picked up a loose puck on a turnover by Dallas defenseman Darryl Sydor, skated in alone and beat goalie Manny Fernandez with his sixth goal of the season at 4 minutes 18 seconds to make it 3-1.
The defending Stanley Cup champion Stars fell to 8-8-1. Dallas did not lose its eighth game last season until Jan. 18.
PREDATORS 4, BLACKHAWKS 2: Rob Valicevic scored three times in a four-goal first period to record the Predators' first-ever hat trick and lead them to a win in Chicago. Randy Robitaille also scored in the first period to help Nashville snap a five-game losing streak.
Chicago is the only team without a home win this season.
OILERS 5, COYOTES 4: Jyrki Lumme scored 1:51 into overtime and Keith Tkachuk added two goals to lead the host Coyotes. Dallas Drake had his third assist of the game on Lumme's score.
ISLANDERS 2, HURRICANES 0: Felix Potvin stopped 25 shots for his 13th career shutout, and Josh Green scored his first goal of the season with 5:42 left as the Islanders beat the Hurricanes, who dropped to 1-3 at their new arena. They also went without a penalty for the first time since a January 1980 loss to the Islanders.
SENATORS 4, RANGERS 3: Patrick Lalime made 38 saves and Chris Phillips scored the game-winner with 5:35 remaining in the third period to give the Senators a comeback victory in New York.
PANTHERS 4, THRASHERS 1: Rob Niedermayer and Scott Mellanby scored power-play goals and Ray Whitney had three assists for host Florida. Mellanby added an empty-netter with 24 seconds left in the game.
FLAMES 4, SHARKS 3: Cory Stillman banged in a rebound on the power play with 37 seconds remaining in overtime as the host Flames edged the Sharks for their fifth overtime win this season.
