Dustin Hellenga threw two touchdown passes and kicked the deciding field goal in the fourth quarter to give host South Lakes a 25-22 win over West Potomac in a Virginia AAA Division 5 Northern Region playoff game last night in Reston. South Lakes improved to 8-3 and will play Yorktown, a 38-32 winner over Langley, in next week's region final. West Potomac finished 6-5.

Hellenga, who usually plays wide receiver, took over at quarterback after starter Chris Royal injured his right arm in the first quarter. Hellenga threw touchdown passes of 23 and three yards in the second quarter, kicked two extra points, threw a two-point conversion pass and kicked a 19-yard field goal in the fourth that provided the difference.

Anthony McGee led the Seahawks' ground attack with 134 yards on 31 carries, including a five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

* LAKE BRADDOCK 17, ROBINSON 0: B.J. Quigley threw two second-half touchdown passes as host Lake Braddock won a AAA Division 6 Northern Region playoff game in Burke.

The No. 6 Bruins (11-0) will play Centreville next week in the Northern Region final. No. 18 Robinson finished 8-3.

Lake Braddock entered halftime with a 3-0 lead, keyed by a first-quarter goal-line stand and a 27-yard field goal by Steve Finnern. Quigley completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hydock in the third quarter and threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Garrick Evans in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Quigley completed 6 of 12 passes for 91 yards. Mike Uffen, normally a linebacker, rushed for 69 yards for Lake Braddock.

* BRENTSVILLE 39, BUCKINGHAM COUNTY 21: Senior running back Justin Thomas totaled 269 yards and scored four touchdowns as Brentsville (8-3) won at home in a Virginia A Region B Division 2 semifinal. Thomas rushed for 131 yards and all four of his touchdowns on 16 carries, and added four catches for 138 yards. Three of his catches were on third-down plays, and two set up scores.

Brentsville, which is making its third playoff appearance in four years, will play the winner of last night's Madison County-Buffalo Gap game in next week's Region B Division 2 final. Buckingham finished 5-6.
