Steve Yzerman had a goal and recorded his 900th career assist as the Detroit Red Wings extended their unbeaten streak to five games with a 7-2 win over the host Vancouver Canucks last night.

Steve Duchesne set up three goals for the Red Wings, who also extended their unbeaten streak over Vancouver to 10 games.

Yzerman became the 10th NHL player to reach the 900-assist plateau, and his goal was the 599th of his career. The two points upped his career total to 1,499, eighth on the all-time list. With his next goal, Yzerman will become only the fifth player to have 600 or more goals and 900 or more assists.

PANTHERS 2, AVALANCHE 1: Rob Niedermayer scored the game-winning goal with 15.7 seconds left as the visiting Panthers won their fourth straight. Radek Dvorak added a goal and Scott Mellanby set up Niedermayer with his second assist of the game. Trevor Kidd had 34 saves for the Panthers, who hadn't won a game in Colorado since Oct. 17, 1996.

BRUINS 2, DEVILS 2: Mikko Eloranta ended Martin Brodeur's shutout bid by converting a nice power-play setup by Sergei Samsonov at 6:56 of the third period and Joe Murphy got the game-tying goal a little more than two minutes later as Boston tied the host Devils.

BLUES 3, MAPLE LEAFS 2: Terry Yake scored with 59.2 seconds left to give the Blues the victory over the Maple Leafs in Toronto. Pierre Turgeon, who set up Yake's goal on a two-on-one, had three assists to give him seven points in his last three games.

HURRICANES 2, SENATORS 1: Bates Battaglia and Robert Kron scored as the host Hurricanes defeated Ottawa. Kron's goal came on a semi-breakaway after Irbe had made a nifty pad save. Battaglia's seventh goal of the season tied his total in 60 games last year.

THRASHERS 5, LIGHTNING 4: Andrew Brunette and Matt Johnson scored 10 seconds apart early in the third period as the Thrashers ended a four-game losing streak with a home victory over Tampa Bay.

MIGHTY DUCKS 2, FLAMES 1: Ladislav Kohn scored a power-play goal, his first of the season, with just under seven minutes left to give host Anaheim the win. Antti Aalto scored in the first period and Marty McInnis assisted on both goals for the Mighty Ducks.
